Dear Friends and Clients,

We at Rutland Veterinary Clinic and Surgical Center want to inform you of all the new policies and procedures we are taking to combat the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The steps that we are taking are in efforts to encourage social distancing with others and to keep both our clients, outside personnel and our staff safe and healthy. Below are the procedures that we will be enacting on Monday, March 23, 2020.

Policies and Procedures Effective March 23, 2020

            Wellness Examinations

At this time Rutland Veterinary Clinic and Surgical Center will be continuing to perform wellness care for our patients and clients. We will be instilling a “limited-contact” policy for our clients and be removing the presence of clients within our building. Therefore we will be informing owners/clients when they make appointments that upon arrival to not enter the building and to call us at 802-773-2779. Our staff will be out to escort their animal from the car and direct the clients/owner of the next steps. Communication and payment information with the owner/client beyond this will be through the phone.

Non-Emergency Sick/Diagnostic Examinations

Rutland Veterinary Clinic and Surgical Center will be continuing to perform sick/diagnostic care for our patients and clients. We will be instilling a “limited-contact” policy for our clients and be removing the presence of clients within our building. Therefore we will be informing owners/clients when they make appointments that upon arrival to not enter the building and to call us at 802-773-2779. Our staff will be out to escort their animal from the car and direct the clients/owner of the next steps. Communication and payment information with the owner/client beyond this will be through the phone. We are also encouraging owners to utilize our day admission option for sick/diagnostic patients. This will be at no additional charge and allow RVCSC to treat animals efficiently.

Emergency Examinations

Rutland Veterinary Clinic and Surgical Center will continue to do on-call emergency and emergency cases (during active business hours) to serve Rutland and the surrounding communities. We continue to stress that clients call ahead of the emergency so that we are prepared to receive the animal. During active business hours when clients arrive we request that they call us from their car at 802-773-2779. Our staff will be out to escort the animal from the car and direct the clients/owner of the next steps.  During off-business hours emergencies, we will be asking that only a maximum of one member come with their animal as we will be escorting them into a separate area of the building with the patient.

Medication and Food refills

Rutland Veterinary Clinic and Surgical Center will continue to fill medication and food requests for our clients. We are asking our clients to call a minimum of 24 hours beforehand so that we can fill it accurately and efficiently. We will be asking our clients to pay over the phone before in order to expedite and reduce the person to person contact with our staff. Once the medication or food has been filled we will be asking our clients to call us at 802-773-2779 when they arrive so that we may run it to their car.  We encourage our clients to use utilize our online store Rutlandvet.Vetsfirstchoice.com and our online food store proplanvetdirect.com.

Boarding

We will be suspending our boarding capabilities for the time being. At this time we have contacted those that have had reservations and made efforts to find a suitable replacement if need be. For animals that are currently here during the transition time, we are asking that at the time of pick-up clients call us at 802-773-2779 to collect payment and to deliver their animal to their vehicle.

Change in Active hours

During this time we will be making changes to our active open hours to Fridays and Sundays. Starting the week of March 23rd going forward our office will be closed to appointments, medication refills and food pickups on Fridays at 5 pm and Sundays at 2 pm. We will still be open for on-call emergencies as usual after these hours. We will not be dispensing medications or food while we are in our office closure hours. The active business hours going forward will be as follows.

Monday:          7 am to 8 pm

Tuesday:         7 am to 8 pm

Wednesday:    7 am to 8 pm

Thursday:        7 am to 8 pm

Friday:             7 am to 6 pm

Saturday:        7 am to 5 pm

Sunday:           7 am to 2 pm


We understand it is challenging to put our lives on hold as well. We understand the well-being of our pets is just as important to us as our own health. If you as our client are feeling unwell and your pet has a routine visit, please reschedule your appointment. If you are experiencing an emergency with your pet and you are unwell, please let one of our team members know so we can put extra precautions in place.

We are asking all clients and staff to keep up-to-date on this situation. We will be following all local, state, and national regulations and will be taking guidance from the AVMA as well.
